DAY 1
Transfer to the hotel on arrival at Melbourne Airport. Then you have time to relax or perhaps go out and explore the Cultural and Sporting Capital of Australia.
DAY 2
AAMI Victoria Derby Day is considered by most racing purists to be the best single day of racing in Australia, if not the world. Today’s races is optional as you may choose to spend the day at leisure.
DAY 3
After breakfast we head out on an excursion to Living Legends. See past legends of the Australian Turf such as Better Loosen Up, Doriemus, Fields of Omagh, Might and Power, Rogan Josh and Saintly. Guests will also receive a guided tour of the horse paddocks, access to the homestead and gardens, histories of the champion horses, and a morning tea. It’s then off to Goonawarra Winery for a Sunday lunch.
DAY 4
This morning it’s on to Federation Square and the Australian Racing Museum and Hall of Fame. Gain insight into the history of thoroughbred racing in Australia; hear stories from the track of the commitment and passion of trainers, discover the physiology of horses and their jockeys, along with the fashions, trends and race day antics. It’s then time to line the city streets to watch the annual Parade of Champions, human and equine. Preceded by bands and children, the parade is a celebration and a traditional part of Melbourne Cup week and features current jockeys and trainers who will take part in this year’s big race.
DAY 5
It’s time for the greatest day on the Australian sporting and social calendar – the one day when everyone, young and old, stops to partake in this unique cultural tradition. The $5.65 million Emirates Melbourne Cup is the richest handicap in the world and the centerpiece of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. While Australians all over the continent take part in the celebrations, nothing actually compares to being there to witness “The Race that Stops a Nation” as it is affectionately known.
DAY 6
Today there’s time to bid farewell as you are transferred to Melbourne Airport for your return flight home.
